General Description
The Site Supervisor is primarily responsible for the planning, organization and controlling of daily operations on the job site(s). Responsibilities include: work procedures, scheduling, cost control, project specification conformity, establishment of manpower levels, monitoring and implementation of safety programs, project conformance to national, local and/or company building codes and the maintenance of accurate records.
General Responsibilities
Þ Consult with the production department, design center and trade contractors on plan revisions and change orders.
Þ Coordinate the daily activities of project staff, construction trades and subcontractors, and take corrective action to keep the project on time and on budget.
Þ Help to resolve design issues, change requests, material defects and equipment problems.
Þ Walk through homes daily. Take overall responsibility for keeping sites tidy during construction.
Þ Schedule municipal inspections.
Þ Execute the goals of the Clean and Complete program.
Þ Monitor the delivery and use of materials, tools and equipment; and the quality of construction, worker productivity and safety.
Þ Monitor the performance of trade contractors and ensure all work in completed on schedule; report any deficient trade work to Manager of Construction and make recommendations.
Þ Implement and supervise quality control standards to ensure homes are built according to quality standards.
Þ Order materials and supplies and schedule deliveries. Receive, inspect and verify all deliveries.
Þ Ensure the accounting department receives copies of all purchase orders.
Þ Communicate regularly with Construction Manager regarding production status of homes.
Þ Mentor and ensure field employees adhere to company policies and procedures.
Health and Safety Responsibilities
Þ Know and enforce the company safety policy and rules.
Þ Ensure that all employees, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers are in full compliance with applicable legislated safe work place standards.
Þ Ensure that all required documentation of legislation and the company’s Health & Safety Policy & Program is available in all workplaces.
Þ Ensure that workers are aware of any workplace-specific hazard.
Þ Make available all necessary personal protective equipment; job safety materials and First Aid equipment.
Þ Work closely with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and/or Safety Representative to maintain a safe work environment.
Þ Investigate and report all accidents and near miss incidents.
Þ Conduct monthly Toolbox Talks with site employees; record attendance and meeting minutes; use Toolbox Talks form.
Þ Conduct and review weekly site safety inspections and forward copy to head office.
Þ Provide safety orientation to new and returning workers including trades workers before they start work on the job site.
Þ Participate actively in health and safety meetings.
Þ Respond to all recommendations from the Joint Health and Safety Committee, or Health and Safety Representative.
Þ Review jobsite inspection reports immediately upon receipt and respond to any issues.
Þ Ensure that workers work in the manner with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.
Þ Provide orientation for new employees and sub-contractor/suppliers.
Þ Ensure employees have required training and competency to perform duties in a safe manner prior to commencement of work.
Þ Conduct a site pre-start-up safety audit and ensure all applicable materials (i.e. safety boards, safety stations, etc) are visible and in place.
Þ Correct substandard acts or conditions.
Þ Commend employee health and safety performance.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge
Þ Minimum completion of high school
Þ A university degree in civil engineering or a college diploma in construction technology is an asset
Þ Must have valid and up to date WHMIS, Fall Protection and First-Aid/CPR training
Þ Building and Construction – knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses and buildings.
Þ Several years of experience in the construction industry, including experience as a construction supervisor or field superintendent.
Þ Valid class G driver’s license
